May 2024:"Superb spot, with an outstanding view across the valley - little wonder that the Cistercian monks chose to build Valle Crucis Abbey here. Shameful that Henry VIII sacked it in pursuit of a male heir. Plenty more to explore locally, including of course a plethora of magnificent walks. This was our second visit, hope to be back for a third soon."

July 2023: “It’s been a pleasure staying at Velvet Cottage. We were just a few
minutes drive from beautiful Llangollen and just over the road from Valle
Crucis Abbey (well worth a visit). The cottage is roughly an hour from
Conwy/Llandudno depending on traffic so there is plenty to do. Highly
recommended, thank you both.”
June

beautiful, clean and peaceful. We had a perfect long weekend away, had a local
pub nearby but also facilities to cook. Check in and out was very flexible.
Great hosts! Would recommend!”
June 2023: “We had a great stay at Velvet Cottage. The booking and communication
was faultless. Inside the house it was super clean, the house is old but
absolutely wonderful. Everything is in the kitchen that you would need. Towels
and bed linen were so clean and not at all old.The beds were really
comfortable. All in all we had a great stay and look forward to returning.”
March 2023: “We had a lovely time in Velvet cottage and wanted to say thank you
for all the information you passed on to me before our visit. We took the steam
train on Saturday morning and had ice creams in Llangollen before heading back
for lunch at the cottage. Then we did the 45 minute walk around Velvet Hill and
ended up for a quick drink at the Chainbridge Hotel before walking back along
the road for dinner. On Sunday we had a drive out to the Aqueduct and came back
to have a walk to Horseshoe Falls before getting changed and having a beautiful
Sunday lunch at Abbey Farm Bistro. This finished off a fabulous weekend and we are
already talking about returning again either later this year or early next.”
November
2022: “Great place for a short stay. Everything I needed for the weekend was
there. If you don't want to cook, then there is a great Bistro at the caravan
site which is only a few minutes walk down the road. Had a really good cooked
breakfast which was very reasonably priced.”

was clearly marked and explained. Thank you so much to you both.”

conscientious host.”

especially recommend the walk to the Chainbridge walking around the back of
Velvet Hill.”
June 2022: “Lovely traditional cottage in a stunning location. The hosts
couldn’t be more helpful and responsive. The steps up to the cottage are steep
and the stairs are twisty and narrow, so a level of mobility is needed, but so
worth it for the amazing views and so much wildlife. Peaceful haven.”
May

some fantastic views right outside the front door.”
April 2022: “Thanks so much, we had a fantastic time, great cottage, very clean

February 2022: “Despite visiting during Storm Franklin with strong winds and
heavy rain, we had a great time. Pre-visit communication was excellent, the
best we have experienced.”
December 2021: “The cottage is the perfect base to explore the stunning
landscape around Llangollen. My family and I had a Christmas break we’ll never
forget and really enjoyed our time at Velvet Cottage.”
November 2021: “We needed to stay local to Llangollen and this cottage was
perfect for our needs.”
October 2021: “We booked this cottage for a Valentine’s weekend but Covid
forced us to move my booking so we had a lovely break for my birthday. The
cottage was warm and cosy, comfortable sitting room, excellent sized kitchen
and the bedrooms were good with a king sized bed in the master. We wouldn’t
hesitate to stay again.”

so hopefully will be back again.”

provided some great walk ideas. Fantastic place.”
June 2021: “Nice little cottage with everything we needed and very comfortable
beds. Although it could do with a bit of decorating and the garden needs
attending to. Owner is very helpful with all the information on the surrounding
area. Cottage has it's own parking space which is a bonus.”
September
2020: “Really enjoyed our stay at Velvet Cottage so based on our interests I
have rated it a five star. Great Location with so many walking possibilities
straight from the door and for us this was the main objective of our trip. I
agree with the other comments people made. This is an old cottage which is
designed to be dog friendly, it is not luxurious but it is clean, spacious and
has most of the things you need. The owners are helpful and answered any email
questions promptly. Just for info the cottage benefits from a good size fridge
and freezer which was roomy enough to store our perishable foods for a week.
After an email exchange I found I did need to take my own cafetiere and
hairdryer which was no problem. So if there is something you can’t live without
check whether you need to bring it with you,or whether it is available at the
cottage. We also benefited from having an Asda delivery to the cottage and that
saved us bringing lots of food with us. The information warns of some low
doorways, but everything was well taped and signed so we both managed to avoid
hitting our heads. Thanks to our hosts for a great week and we hope to return
sometime very soon.”
February
2020: “What a beautiful house you have, we have all thoroughly enjoyed staying
here! We are going to take one of your business cards so we can book directly
next time.”
February
2020: “Just wanted to say how much we have enjoyed our weekend at you
lovely cottage, even Storm Ciara couldn't spoil it for us. Dogs loved the
walks round Velvet Hill, and the cottage was really spacious but very cozy.
Many thanks once again, and with a bit of luck we may stay longer next year.”
December
2019: “We stayed in Velvet Cottage for 3 nights in December. The cottage
was lovely and cosy with all the amenities you could need. The beds
were comfortable and bedrooms were plenty big enough. The hosts were
very good at communicating the essentials and extra information about
what to do in the area. Good instructions on how to use electrical appliances
were very helpful. We would definitely stay here again!”.
November
2019: “If you need a cottage for relaxing time after a full day of hiking
or sightseeing tour around Wales, e.g. castels, Liverpool, Chester or the
Snowdon, it is on of the best to live. It is homely and enough for up to six
people. For all the people which like to cook it is better to check-in
first and buy after check-in stuff, for example by Aldi ( 7 min by car).”
August
2019: “Velvet cottage was absolutely lovely to stay in! It was so clean, neat
and cosy. The location is beautiful and was really easy to navigate around. All
amenities were available and made for a homely stay. We loved it and
definitely would return if we came back to wales!”
July
2019: “Velvet Cottage is a nice and cosy place and you can get a glimpse of
ancient living but with modern equipment. You find everything you need for a
nice stay plus a lot of useful tips for activities, shopping and meals and
everything is described in an accurate way. Thank you, Yvonne and Ian for a
nice stay!”
April
2019: “The cottage is in a beautiful location surrounded by amazing views. The
cottage is very well equipped and clean. Llangollen is charming and the canal
trip across the aqueduct is well worth doing. Chester is not far away and we
spent a great day there. Also not far from the coast.”
April
2019: “We have just returned from a 5 day stay at Velvet Cottage, and our
only complaint was that we couldn’t stay longer. The cottage is
really well appointed and spacious - there is plenty of seating in the
living room, and the little electric stove was fabulous for keeping warm
in the chilly April evenings. The views are stunning - many fantastic
walks on the doorstep, and a pub within a short stroll! You couldn’t ask for
more. The kids really enjoyed the little terrace at the back up against the
hillside, and kept asking if they could eat their meals up there! Llangollen is
a beautiful town and there is so much to do and see; we feel we haven’t
really scratched the surface. We are already looking to see when we can
come back! Thank you Ian and Yvonne.”
October
2018: “We stayed for a week, great location helpful owners. Well
equipped, good places to eat nearby, great walks owners supplied them in
great detail before we arrived. Only downside no washer and the garden
could do with some attention. Would stay again”
May
2018: ”Love the location, so close to everything and yet so relaxing with
peaceful surroundings. We enjoyed the walks around the area. Cottage was clean
and comfortable for our needs (hardly there), and the close proximity to
the local pub for great meals was a bonus.”
February
2018: “Booked this for our auntie and family for the weekend of our
wedding. They really enjoyed their stay, lovely setting , well equipped
and cosy. Excellent communication from owner who made sure the cottage was
nice and warm on arrival. Would definitely book again!”
November
2017: “We had a lovely stay at Velvet Cottage, it was clean and cosy with
everything we needed. In a quiet spot with lovely views and your own
parking bay in front of the cottage.”
August 2017: “This is our second visit, having spent a week at
Velvet Cottage last year. I can only say that it was just as I remember
it. The cottage feels like a real home from home and we all settled back in so
quickly and were so comfortable. The bedrooms are very comfortable and warm and
with the added peace and quiet you can't help but sleep well! I love the
quirkiness of the cottage - the small bedroom (my daughter loves that room!)
and the stairs I personally love - and makes it special - and I can imagine
myself living there permanently! ”
